At the MET Museum

At the MET museum

Where we first met

We both were looking at

“The Massacre of the Innocents” by François-Joseph Navez

It was hard admiring the painting

With you next to me

I asked you what stood out the most about the painting

Your response was as good as your looks

You asked the guard if there were more works by the artist

I made my regretful leave

I should have stayed

And asked for your name

Your number

Or if you were someone else’s

Are you taken?

Would you be mine?

I go to the MET all the time
